Q: And with Jesse, we don’t see him get tortured.

A: It was never in the script. It’s so brutal, the reveal of it, that I don’t think I could have stood watching that. I think the writers are really good at finding the fine line. For myself, if a TV show or a movie feels like it’s being gratuitous in the sense of playing on these emotional investments you’ve made in the characters in a cruel way just to make you cringe, it feels unfair. This is a pretty cruel episode, but I don’t think it ever brings you to the point of “they’re just messing with me.” Seeing Jesse tortured, I probably would have stood up and walked away.

Ansari has become a little more comfortable with the concept of marriage since Buried Alive, and now he’s trying to figure out how it actually happens. “The scary thing to me is: Where do you find that person? What happens if you never meet that person?” he asks. This question is at the heart of a long, less jokey part of his new set about having too many options. It is “statistically impossible to find happiness,” he offers at one point. A few weeks ago, he went to a friend’s wedding and found himself unexpectedly moved by the vows. “If I felt that about someone,” he says, “I wouldn’t think twice about getting married.”  [x]

Rachel Green Best Comebacks

"With stand-up, it doesn’t matter who you are. If the audience claps because they love your movies, that clapping stops after five seconds, and then it’s your job to make them laugh."

"With stand-up, it doesn’t matter who you are. If the audience claps because they love your movies, that clapping stops after five seconds, and then it’s your job to make them laugh."

I was somebody before I came in here. I was somebody with a life that I chose for myself and now, now it’s just about getting through the day without crying. And I’m scared. I’m still scared. I’m scared that I’m not myself in here and I’m scared that I am. Other people aren’t the scariest part of prison, it’s coming face-to-face with who you really are. Because once you’re behind these walls there’s nowhere to run. The truth catches up with you in here and it’s the truth that’s going to make you her bitch.
